[Video] Boston Musical Theater comes to Korea |

• History of Boston Musical Theater BOSTON MUSICAL THEATER, based in Newton MA, is a vocal and instrumental ensemble formed in 1976, specializing in the performance of historical American popular music. From 1981 to 1987, Boston Musical Theater was in residence at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, where they performed 18th-century ballad operas annually, as part of the Museum's music series. Since 1995, Boston Musical Theater has broadened its repertoire with thematic programs encompassing the history of American song and the development of the American Musical Theater. Boston Musical Theater specializes in the performance of cabarets and programs of classic American popular music both here and abroad. BMT performed IN 2004 in Moscow as the only American group at The International Festival of Musical Theaters, from which a live recording was made. While in Moscow, the group gave lectures and master classes in Jazz and American musical theater at the Moscow Conservatory and at the Moscow Jazz College. In the United States, BMT has performed annually at the Regattabar in Cambridge, regularly the National Heritage Museum in Lexington, in the Berkshires at the New Marlborough Festival and the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center. They also gave concerts at the Library of Congress, the Folger Shakespeare Library, Bentley College, and Brandeis University. BMT appeared in the 2007 Mabel Mercer Foundation’s Cabaret Convention at Lincoln Center in November. All BMT programs are conceived by Charlotte Kaufman and Ron Stillman and are scripted, and directed by Charlotte Kaufman. On Friday, March 7, 2008, the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy-Seoul held an American Southern Music program twice at the Information Resource Center, located at Yongsan. The first show was from 2-4 P.M., the second show was from 5-7 P.M A group of American musicians played the traditional folk songs of the American South’s “Old Time Music,” which is a unique blend of black and white folk traditions. |
